Information Age: In our today’s knowledge economy we manufacture knowledge. (Knowledge is familiarity with someone or something, that can include descriptions, facts, information, and/or skills acquired through experience or education.)

In order to understand the Manufacturing process of knowledge, we have to draw corollary to physical manufacturing process. Though knowledge manufacturing is a product of culture, involving abstract processes.

Inputs to manufacture process are Raw Materials: (A raw material or feedstock is the basic material from which a product is manufactured or made, frequently used with an extended meaning)

To manufacture quality Knowledge base, one needs to source in quality Information. Information sourced in can be of external in nature to the institution or internal. Along with availability of Information resource material, there needs to be a credible Organizational structure, instituted on values and principles. (A personal and/or cultural value is an absolute or relative ethical value, the assumption of which can be the basis for ethical action. A principle is a law or rule that has to be, or usually is to be followed, or can be desirably followed, or is an inevitable consequence of something, such as the laws observed in nature or the way that a system is constructed)

An Institution: (An institution is any structure or mechanism of social order and cooperation governing the behavior of a set of individuals within a given human community)

An Institution in a Knowledge Economy functions as a “Hub” a Central entity around which other abstract economic processes revolve or from which knowledge radiates. With Advent of Openness, as a philosophy is entrenching in our youthful society. This phenomenal tide is inspired from humans innate behavior of spreading goodness.

Classical Example of Knowledge Product is “WIKIEPIDIA foundation” (http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/About_Wikimedia) Analyzing the very nature of this Product: One realizes that Wikipedia is an Organizational Tool built on philosophy of Knowledge Sharing, Openness, Virtual De-identified Collaboration. The Societal emotion being tapped in this process are varied and subject to further exploration. [link="http://www.research.ibm.com/visual/projects/history_flow/index.htm"]“Chromogram IBM”[/link]
